BERKELEY – One of the most prolific scorers in the history of the California field hockey program, Megan Rodgers was named to the 2021-22 U.S. National Team on Tuesday, as announced by the organization.
 
"I am ecstatic about Megan's selection to the national team," said the Donna Fong Director of Field Hockey Shellie Onstead. "This was part of the conversation since her recruitment began. I think COVID and graduation provided a challenge, but she never let go of the dream. She prepared herself for trials from home, which is a tribute to her perseverance. Her new journey is just beginning and all the Bears will be cheering her on."
 
Rodgers becomes Cal's first U.S. National Team player since Sheryl Johnson and Marcy Place competed for Team USA at the 1988 Summer Olympics. Onstead represented the U.S. from 1985-86 as a player, as well as serving as an assistant coach for the U.S. at the 2008 Summer Olympics. 
 
Having previously competed for the U.S. U-19 team, Rodgers earned a spot on the national squad after evaluation earlier this month at the Young Women's National Championship in Virginia.
 
Rodgers ended her collegiate career following her junior campaign in 2019. She was the Golden Bears' leading scorer in each of her three seasons at Cal. She ranks fourth in career goals (43) and fifth in the career points (87) in program history. The native of San Diego was a three-time America East All-Conference selection and was twice tabbed to the NFHCA All-West Region First Team.
 
Rodgers and her squad will reconvene for training in August in preparation for the 2022 Pan American Cup from Jan. 20 to Jan. 30 in Santiago, Chile.
