Cal women's swimming & diving alumnae Abbey Weitzeil and junior Isabelle Stadden have each been named to the 2022-23 U.S. National Team., USA Swimming has announced.

Weitzeil, a two-time Olympian and four-time Olympic medalist, is on the national team in the 50-meter freestyle. Weitzeil won the NCAA championship in the 50 free as a senior at Cal in 2019.

Weitzeil won the gold medal in the 4x100 medley relay and the silver in the 4x100 freestyle relay at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Last summer in Tokyo, she took home a silver in the 4x100 medley relay and a bronze in the 4x100 freestyle relay.

Stadden was selected to the national team in the 100 and 200 backstroke events. She has won back-to-back Pac-12 championships in the 200 back and has three top-5 finishes at the NCAA Championships.

Over the summer, Stadden won the title in the 200 back at the Phillips 66 National Championships while taking the bronze medal in the 100 back.

To be selected for the team, athletes must hold one of the top-6 fastest times in her individual Olympic event.
