Golla Named A Finalist For Scholz Award
The Cal Rugby Senior Captain Is One Of Four Finalists
BERKELEY – Cal rugby senior captain
Sam Golla has been named a finalist for the 2022 Rudy Scholz Award. He is one of four finalists that have been chosen from the list of 16 nominees from across the nation.
The Rudy Scholz Award has honored the top men's collegiate rugby player since 2016. Coaches, players, and fans from across the country voted among the 16 nominees to narrow the list down to four. Golla was nominated by more members of the Scholz Award panel than any other nominee. The winner of the award will now be selected by a panel of rugby experts.
Golla is the sixth Golden Bear to be nominated for the award. He joins Sam Cusano ('20), Nic Mirhashem ('19), Kevin Sullivan ('18), Russell Webb ('17), and Anthony Salaber ('17) in the list of Cal rugby alumni to be nominated for the distinction. Golla is the first Bear to be named a finalist for the award.
The winner of the Scholz Award will be named near the end of the 15s season, and it will be presented at the annual Washington Athletic Club's Gala Awards Dinner in June.
