Roy Earns Weekly Honor From Pac-12

Senior Named Conference Offensive Player Of The Week

BERKELEY – California women's soccer senior Keely Roy has earned Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week recognition following her standout performance in the Bears' sweep of the Washington schools this past week.

This is the first weekly honor for Roy and the fourth time that a Golden Bear has received recognition this season. Cal goalkeeper Angelina Anderson previously earned conference Goalkeeper of the Week accolades while defender Sydney Collins took Pac-12 Defender of the Week honors in consecutive weeks. Roy is the first Cal player to earn Offensive Player of the Week honors this season.

Roy, a senior from Sebastpol, dominated the scoreboard in both of Cal's matches, contributing three out of the four goals the team scored against its opponents.

In Thursday's 2-1 win over then-No. 21 Washington State, Roy launched a rocket into the back of the net just ten minutes into the first period to give Cal a 1-0 advantage. Only 25 minutes went by before Roy lit up the scoreboard again, when she successfully converted a penalty kick to lift the Bears' lead to 2-0.

Roy's work for the week wasn't done, though. She tallied another game-deciding goal in Sunday's 2-1 victory over Washington. Roy placed a ball between the goalposts thanks to a beautiful set up by Karlie Lema, who got the first touch after a long pass by defender Kailee Gifford.

With her three last weekend, Roy's season total is now eight goals, ranking her fifth in the conference. Roy is at the top of Cal's leaderboard for shots this season with her 40 total and 17 shots-on-goal, and she is tied for seventh place in the Pac-12 for total shot attempts. Roy is also 4-for-4 on penalty kicks this season.

Roy and the Bears (8-3-3, 3-2 Pac 12) will look to extend their three-game winning streak Friday in another home matchup against USC at 4 p.m. at Edwards Stadium. The match will air on the Pac-12 Network.
