Josh Johnson took to the circle on day two at the Birmingham Crossplex to compete in the men's shot put, having qualified as one of the event's top 16 competitors in the nation.
Johnson posted a best throw of 18.86m (61-10.5) to take 13
th place in the field on Saturday, good for Second Team All-American status. This makes his second such honor, having already earned an All-American nod after the 2020 indoor season. He ends the 2022 indoor season at second on Cal's all-time indoor shot put list, having reached a personal best of 19.93m (65-4.75) at the Pac-12 Invitational two weeks ago.
"This was an exceptional national championship," said assistant coach
Mohamad Saatara, who leads the throws. "Our student-athletes represented themselves and Cal to the best of their abilities."
Johnson, Rogers and the Bears now turn their attention to the outdoor season, where Johnson holds the second-best mark in Cal outdoor shot put history at 19.88m (65-2.75) and Rogers owns the collegiate record in the hammer throw at 75.52m (247-9).
