The Bears are coming off a Pac-12 championship at the conference meet, their fifth overall team title and first since 2015. Cal combined for a school-record-tying 12 wins, including a sweep of all five relays. Ivey, who captured the 100 fly, 100 free and 100 back crowns and was a part of four relays, was named the Pac-12 Swimmer of the Meet. The other individual winners were
Rachel Klinker (200 fly),
Robin Neumann (200 free),
Isabelle Stadden (200 back) and
Alicia Wilson (200 IM).

The Bears have finished among the top 3 at each of the last 11 NCAA Championships – the only school in the country to claim that distinction. Within the run are four national titles, which came in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2015. Cal has finished as the national runner-up each of the last three years the national meet has been held.
