Three Bears Earn MPSF All-Tournament Honors

Papanikolaou, Deely and Delagrammatikas Named To Nine-Man Team

Three members of the California men's water polo team were named to the 2021 MPSF All-Tournament Team, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. Sophomore MPSF Player of the Year Nikolaos Papanikolaou, senior team captain Nikos Delagrammatikas and junior Jack Deely made the team, marking the first career all-tournament nod for each.

In Cal's two games during the tournament, Papanikolaou totaled two goals, seven drawn exclusions and three steals. He scored two goals in the Bears' semifinal 11-8 win over USC and drew four exclusions in the match. 

Deely finished the weekend with six points, recording a game-high five points (one goal, four assists) in Saturday's win. Delagrammatikas scored once in the win.

The Bears had a bye into the semifinal of the tournament. After beating USC, they dropped a close match to Stanford, 9-8, in the championship game.

Cal and Stanford led the conference with three players from each squad earning all-tournament honors.

NEXT UP
The Bears will face either USC or Bucknell in the NCAA Championships semifinal Saturday, March 20 at 5 p.m. PT. The tournament is being held at USC's Uytengsu Aquatic Center. The championship game is slated for Sunday, March 21. The semifinals and finals will be streamed on NCAA.com.
