Rogers Named National, Pac-12 Athlete Of The Week

Reigning NCAA Champion Adds To List Of Accolades

NEW ORLEANS – California track & field junior Camryn Rogers was named National NCAA Division I Women's Athlete of the Week and Pac-12 Women's Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association and Pac-12 Conference on Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively.

Rogers opened defense of her hammer throw national title with a new personal best, leading California as competition got underway last Friday at the Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track and Angell Field.

Finally stepping into her first hammer throw cage in 22 months, Rogers picked up right where she left off after winning the NCAA championship back in June of 2019 in Austin, Texas. She had her best throw of the day on her first attempt, posting 71.73 meters (235'-4") to take the win and record the best mark in the NCAA so far this season by more than 10 feet.

Rogers registered two more throws over 70 meters in the competition and she currently owns the five best marks in the NCAA so far this season.

A native of Richmond, British Columbia, Rogers is the second women's athlete in California track & field history to win the award after teammate Anna Purchase was honored earlier this year on March 9.

National Athlete of the Week is an award selected and presented by the USTFCCCA Communications staff at the beginning of each week to eight collegiate indoor track & field athletes, male and female for each of the three NCAA Divisions and the NJCAA.

The award seeks to highlight not only the very best times, marks and scores on a week-to-week basis, but also performances that were significant on the national landscape and/or the latest in a series of strong outings. Quality of competition, suspenseful finishes and factors also play a role in the decision.
