Field Hockey Unveils 2017 Slate
BERKELEY – California field hockey's exciting 2017 slate includes two Pac-12 Networks appearances and four games against last season's NCAA Tournament teams, head coach
Shellie Onstead announced today.
The Golden Bears mark their return to Underhill Field with a season opener against 2016 NCAA Tournament second-round competitor Syracuse on Friday, Aug. 25. The match is one of four against tournament-caliber teams, including a pair of games against conference foe Stanford and a tilt with first-round competitor Penn State.
Following Cal's opener against Syracuse, the Bears remain home for three more games – Michigan (Monday, Aug. 28), UMass (Friday, Sept. 1) and Iowa (Sunday, Sept. 3).
The first road trip of the season begins with a trip to New England, where Cal meets Bryant in a neutral site contest at Brown on Friday, Sept. 8. The weekend wraps up with a trip to Northeastern on Sunday, Sept. 10.
The Bears open America East action on Saturday, Sept. 16 against Pacific at Underhill Field.
Next, it's a six-game road swing, including back-to-back games at Quinnipiac against Fairfield and Quinnipiac on Sept. 23 and Sept. 24. The Bears return to Northern California to continue conference play against UC Davis on Sept. 29 before heading to Ohio to face Penn State and Ohio State on the Buckeye's campus Oct. 7-8.
Conference action is in full swing in mid-October. Cal faces Pacific in Stockton on Friday, Oct. 13 before returning to Underhill Field for the first time in a month to host Stanford on Sunday, Oct. 15. The match airs live on Pac-12 Networks.
Ca's final weekend of regular-season play includes a home game featuring UC Davis on Friday, Oct. 20 and the finale at Stanford on Sunday, Oct. 22, airing live on Pac-12 Networks.
The America East Championships will be hosted by UMass-Lowell from Nov. 2-5. NCAA Field Hockey Tournament action begins Nov. 10 at campus sites.
