CHICAGO – The Cal women's soccer team is getting ready to start the 2017 campaign, but first, senior defender Indigo Gibson will be heading to Seattle to join U.S. Under-23 Women's National Team for training camp. The U.S. Soccer Federation announced Gibson as one of 24 players who will be participating in the training camp, held from July 21-28.

"We are thrilled to see Indigo being called into the U23 national team," said Cal head coach Neil McGuire. "It is richly deserved. When Indigo joined us at Cal, she committed herself to developing every aspect of her game. It wasn't always easy, but now she has the opportunity to reap the fruits of her labor. We are very proud of her."

The U-23 camp includes 20 current collegiate players and will feature a match against the Seattle Sounders Women of the WPSL on Monday, July 24 at the Husky Soccer Stadium on the University of Washington campus. The full U.S. Women's National team will be training in Seattle at the same time as the U-23s in preparation for the tournament of nations.

The full list of players attending the U-23 camp can be found here.

A mainstay on the Bears' backline since her arrival on campus, Gibson has appeared in 63 games in her Cal career, starting all but two games each of the last two seasons. Gibson helped the Bears to 11 clean sheets in 2016 and was named to the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week on September 6 after playing every minute in Cal's road wins over Texas and Texas Tech, in which the Bears held both opponents scoreless. The Las Flores, California native was a member of the U.S. U-18 National Team and has been called into both the U.S. U-19 and Canadian U-20 training camps during her time at Cal.

Gibson and the Golden Bears kick of the 2017 season on Friday, August 18, hosting UC Irvine at 5 p.m. PT. Cal is looking to build on a successful 2016 campaign that saw the Bears go 13-5-3 and reach the NCAA Tournament for the 13th consecutive season.
