Bears Earn Team, Individual Scholar All-America Honors

BERKELEY - Another standout season both in the pool and in the classroom earned the Cal women's swimming and diving team national recognition Wednesday as the Golden Bears received distinction as a Scholar All-America Team and nine Bears were honored individually as Scholar All-Americans by the College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America.

A longtime commitment to scholastic excellence continued for head coach Teri McKeever's squad as the Bears received their second Scholar All-America team award for the 2016-17 school year, adding it to the same honor earned after the fall semester. 

Four Bears received recognition as first team honorees, a distinction met by compiling a GPA of 3.50 or higher and participating at the NCAA Championships meet. Those earning first team honors are: In addition, five more Bears earned honorable mention for also carrying a 3.50 GPA and either achieving an NCAA "B" time standard or competing at the NCAA zone diving meet. Wednesday's academic honors added to another great all-around season for the Bears. As a team, the Bears finished second in the country at the 2017 NCAA Championships – the ninth year in a row they have placed among the top three.
