BERKELEY - California will send 26 student-athletes – 14 men and 12 women – to Austin, Texas, this weekend for the NCAA West Regionals.

Leading the way is a pair who rank third regionally in their respective events – Ashtyn Davis in the men's 110-meter hurdles and Peter Simon in the men's shot put.

Bethan Knights is the top-rated Cal woman, holding down the sixth seed in the 10,000 meters. She placed third in the 10K at the Pac-12 meet with a personal-best 33:30.13, also No. 3 on the Bears' record charts.

Three Golden Bears have qualified to compete in two events – Robert Brandt (men's 5000 and 10,000 meters), McKay Johnson (men's shot put and discus) and Malik McMorris (men's shot put and discus).

The top 12 finishers in each event at the regional meet this weekend will qualify for the NCAA Championships next month in Eugene, Ore.

• LAST TIME OUT: CAL WINS TWO TITLES AT PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIPS
Ashtyn Davis remained perfect this season in the 110-meter hurdles, as he cruised across the finish line in a lifetime-best 13.50 seconds to capture the conference title in the event.

Davis was joined by Peter Simon, who won the men's shot put (64-9.25, lifetime-best), as Cal's two conference champions over the weekend. In the team competition, the Bear men finished fifth with 72 points, while the Cal women tied for ninth with 45 points.

• LAST YEAR AT REGIONALS
Four Bears - Isabella Marten, Ashtyn Davis, Ashley Anderson, Peter Simon - qualified for the NCAA Championships at the 2016 NCAA Regionals.

Marten (42-8.25/13.01m) and Anderson (42-4.25/12.91m) finished seventh and ninth, respectively, in the triple jump with Anderson setting a new PR in the process. In the 110-meter hurdles, Davis took ninth (13.82). Finally, Simon recorded a throw of 61-3.50 (18.68m) to place 10th in the shot put.

• THE TOP 10S A-CHANGIN'
No less than 24 marks posted this year have earned spots on Cal's all-time top 10 list. Perhaps the biggest impact came the night of March 31 at the Stanford Invitational when Robert Brandt ran Cal's No. 2 time in the men's 10,000m (28:48.39) and Bethan Knights the No. 3 women's 10K (33:31.25).

At the Pac-12 Championships two weeks ago, Ashtyn Davis (110-meter hurdles) and Peter Simon (shot put) were both victorious with lifetime-best times/marks that both rank third in school history.

• OTHER TOP REGIONAL RANKINGS
Some of the other Bears to enter this weekend's meet with regional rankings in the top 12 include Robert Brandt (9th, 10,000m, 28:48.38) and (11th, 5000m, 13:45.45), and Jordyn Colter (12th, 800m, 2:05.46).
