BERKELEY – A total of 26 Golden Bears – 12 women and 14 men – have earned selection into the field for the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds, which will be contested May 25-27 in Austin, Texas. The top 12 finishers in each event at the regional meet will qualify for the NCAA Championships next month in Eugene, Ore.

Leading the way is a pair who rank third regionally in their respective events – Ashtyn Davis in the men's 110-meter hurdles and Peter Simon in the men's shot put. Both Davis and Simon captured Pac-12 titles last week and set lifetime bests in the process.

Davis won the 110 hurdles in 13.50 seconds to become the No. 3 performer in the event in school history. Simon, meanwhile, recorded a distance of 64-9.25 on his final attempt to claim the crown. The mark also puts him No. 3 all-time at Cal and was the top effort for the Bears in 13 years.

Bethan Knights is the top-rated Cal woman, holding down the sixth seed in the 10,000 meters. She placed third in the 10K at the Pac-12 meet with a personal-best 33:30.13, also No. 3 on the Bears' record charts.

Three Golden Bears have qualified to compete in two events – Robert Brandt (men's 5000 and 10,000 meters), McKay Johnson (men's shot put and discus) and Malik McMorris (men's shot put and discus).
