BERKELEY - California begins its title hopes this weekend when the team competes at the Pac-12 Championships at the Boulder Country Club in Boulder, Colo. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will again feature some of the best collegiate women’s golf teams and individuals in the country.
The Pac-12 Championship will be condensed into a one-hour special that will debut on Sunday, May 10 at 10 a.m. PT across all Pac-12 Networks.
California turned in a solid regular season, finishing in the top 10 in eight of nine tournaments this season. Three different Golden Bears have earned top five individual finishes this season, including sophomore Lucia Gutierrez who less than a week ago won the Silverado Showdown for her first collegiate victory. It was Gutierrez’s second top five finishes in as many tournaments after also taking second overall at the BYU Entrada Classic.
The Bears will go with a lineup of Gutierrez, Hannah Suh, Pauline Loulier, Marthe Wold and Carly Childs at this weekend’s championship.
Suh and Gutierrez both lead the team with averages of 73.2 (Suh) and 73.1 (Gutierrez). Suh earned a top five finish after placing third at the BYU Entrada Classic. Wold, a freshman from Norway, also placed fourth at the tournament. Loulier entered the Cal lineup for the first time this season in BYU and has jumped from the No. 5 spot to the No. 3 spot after just three tournaments - including one match play event at San Diego State. Childs is Cal’s top returner from last year’s Pac-12 Championships when the Bay Area native finished 13th overall with a 220.
Cal finished 7th at the 2014 Pac-12 Championships at the Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Ore. Cal finished with a three-round score of 298-299-291=888 (+24) with a lineup of Childs, Suh, Gutierrez, Nicola Rössler and Jo Ee Kok.
